BEAR-VIEWING AND THE ALEUT ISLAND LODGE
Rustic, comfortable accommodations
are what await you on Aleut Island, located 50 air-miles SW from
the city of Kodiak in spectacular Uyak Bay. We operate with clean energy--solar power. No
generators humming, just the sound of the many local bird varieties and the surf on the beach.
Private sleeping quarters (dog not included!) and a sauna house for bathing and relaxation
provide comfort and privacy on our island paradise.

During your stay with us, consider the activities available to you at no extra cost:
kayaking
--approximately 45 minutes around Aleut Island with longer trips possible.
Fishing--
possible catches include halibut; rock fish; pink, chum, and silver salmon;
and dolly varden. Hiking, occasional whale watching , and visits to pristine
locations throughout the  Uyak Bay drainage.

Many of our clients
want to 'capture' the great Kodiak bear on film. These magnificent
creatures are never boring to watch and are truly amazing animals. We view
non-habituated Kodiak bears and feel it's vital to the health of the Kodiak bear
population for bears to maintain their natural behaviors. Therefore, we
recommend a minimum 300mm zoom lens for serious photographers so that
your souvenirs will detail to the fullest extent possible  the experience you'll
have in bear country. Binoculars are also recommended.

Uyak Bay is an ideal location for sport fishing. We'll gladly clean and prepare your catch for you
so you can enjoy the succulent fresh-caught taste of Alaska's fine fish and
seafood after a day of adventure on the water and/or land. Fishing licenses
of various durations can be purchased at the Aleut Island lodge.
